Frequently asked questions

The things parents most often ask before we meet.

Getting started

What happens in the first session?

We start with a free 15-minute call to see if it's a good fit and answer any questions. If we move forward, the first full session is about getting to know you (or your child) and what brought you in, so we can figure out a plan together.

How long does therapy usually take?

It varies a lot by person and what you're working on — some people find a few sessions helpful, others work with me for months. We'll check in regularly on how it's going.

Online or in person — which is better?

Both work well for most people. I see clients in person in Toronto and online by video anywhere in Ontario — pick whichever is easier for your family, or mix the two.

Confidentiality and parents

Is therapy confidential — even for my child?

Yes, with a few legal limits: if there's a risk of serious harm to your child or someone else, or a legal requirement to share information (like suspected abuse), I'm required to act on that. I'll always explain what confidentiality means for your family before we start.

How involved are parents in a child's therapy?

It depends on your child's age and what's going on, but parents are generally kept in the loop on progress and how to support things at home, without the session itself becoming a place your child feels unable to speak freely.

Practical details

Do you see clients in Farsi?

Yes — sessions are available in English or Farsi.

Does insurance cover this?

I provide a receipt for every session. Many extended health plans cover Registered Psychotherapists, but coverage varies — check with your provider before booking.

What if I need to cancel?

Just give at least 24 hours' notice where you can. See the Fees & Insurance page for the full policy.
